Curriculum is WHAT one teaches. Technology is HOW one teaches. Technology is a great tool that teachers have to reach all learners. It can help teachers to address the ever widening gap in student achievement and diversity. Technology allows students multiple ways to receive content, as well as engage in it. It gives them multiple options to demonstrate what they have learned, as well as control their learning environment.
In addition to being so readily available to address all learners, it is a way to do so without having to come up with 20 different lesson plans. There are many great websites that are already constructed for teachers to use, which means less time spent creating and more time being engaged with student learning. There are tutorials and on line tools that would benefit a slower learner, while there are other tools that would allow a child that needs more repetition a chance to see or hear the material as many times need to aid their processing or comprehension. Digital text can help students who have trouble reading standard print from books. Talking text could benefit students who struggle with the task of composing grammatically correct sentences. The possibilities are endless! Technology could still yet help bridge communication between home and school. It could help parents better understand how to help their child and be a more active part of their child's education. |
